Modern architecture and urban heritage - Look of Nobel Hotel inspired by Ivo Andric's works
(Nobel Hotel)
Curtain is up. The long-awaited building on Andricev Venac Street has finally shown its facade to the public. Interior works in this hotel called Nobel, inspired by the book Signs by the Roadside, will start soon.
In a talk with eKapija, arhitect Ivana Nenkovic from the Sinestezia studio has revealed some details about this project, whose author is Ana Zatezalo Schenk, the founder of aforementioned architectural studio.
Nobel Hotel, former reconstructed and expanded building of the Embassy of Japan, is located in probably the most desirable place, in the very center of Belgrade, on Andricev Venac Street, which is named after the famous Nobel Prize winner.
(new facade)
The project is open to various interpretations of the communication between modern architecture and urban heritage.
What is new? What is old? Can something new look older than something old and vice versa?
- The spirit of the old facade will remain present forever, and the new, dynamic, glass extension appears as a curtain over the old one, becoming one with it. The building is renovated, expanded, and the glass membrane on upper floors opens through balconies, the street side is balanced, there is continuity in shaping, and the facade becomes visible from key points in urban surroundings - Nekovic stresses.
Wellness center on the roof
(wellness center on the hotel roof)
The hotel is comprised of 12 loft suites.
- The interior design matches the external look of the hotel, combining old and new through form and materialization, thus making it possible for the user to personalize the space - Nenkovic points out.
Each suite has a terrace or a balcony. The hotel roof features a swimming pool and a wellness center in a glass space. Users can enjoy sunsets as well as the view of the Danube and Sava rivers and the entire city.
