Startup center to open at Faculty of Economics
The opening of a startup center at the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade has been announced. The faculty's students will be able to make their first entrepreneurial steps there.
As reported, the startup center will be the place where the students will be able to develop their entrepreneurial ideas and start their business activities with the support of mentors from MVP Workshop. Over the course of three months at the startup center, the selected teams will be working on validating their ideas and improving the product or the service, in order to be prepared to enter the market with their company.
Young people have become more interested in entrepreneurship in the past several years, and the facts speak in favor of the argument that the startup culture is to develop further. At this moment, the IT sector might employ 30,000 IT experts, who don't exist. The current average salary in this sector in Serbia amounts to EUR 1225, whereas direct foreign investments in startups in Serbia in the past year amount to as much as EUR 50 million, it is added.
– This is a great opportunity for our students who have entrepreneurial ambitions to start their business at the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade with the support of the professors and corporate mentors – stated Vice Dean for Corporate Cooperation Dr Dragan Loncar.
Application for teams looking to join the three-month program of developing their business ideas is taking place from July 1 till September 15. Students from other faculties may also apply, but at least one team member must be a student of the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade. The applications need to contained a filled-out Business Model Canvas, a defined size of the market and the CVs of team members. The commission of representatives of MVP Workshop and the faculty will select three teams, which will be working with their mentors on building their companies starting with October.
As added, the works on adapting and developing the space for the startup center, to be located on the fourth floor of the Faculty of Economics building, are being completed.
