The Associated Trade Unions of Serbia Sloga reported on Thursday, August 25, that it had been confirmed that the South Korean company Yura, which operates in Serbia, didn’t allow trade unions to be formed, as the appointed trade unions representative had had his employment contract terminated.

They added that a meeting with the director of the Republic Agency for Peaceful Settlement of Labor Disputes and a representative of the Ministry of Labor had been held, but that representatives of Yura had not answered the invitation to participate.

The report emphasizes that, through this act, Yura “defined itself as an unconscientious employer and confirmed the claims that it was a synonym for undesirable investors in Serbia, the kind that violates workers’ rights and which will be fought much more decisively in the period ahead”.

Sloga announced a board meeting for the next week, in which the strategy for dealing with the problem will be defined, including “organizing a general expression of dissatisfaction with the help of citizens, trade unions and organizations which oppose the exploitation and maltreatment of Serbian workers”.
