Pancevo thermal power plant will start operating in March

In March, once the trial works are completed, Pancevo TPP will oficially be comissioned, said the Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlović.

- This facility is important also because of co-generation, due to efficiency in production and protection of the environment, but also because of greater energy security - said Mihajlovic while visiting Pancevo.

According to the Ministry's website, Mihajlovic added that over EUR 170 million has been invested in the construction of the new power plant and that it will employ about 120 people. She expressed her hope that there would be more investments in Serbia by the same companies which made this project happen.

Director of Gazprom Energoholding Serbia TPP Pancevo, Aleksandar Varnavski, advised that TPP Pancevo, as a plant for combined production of electricity and heat using natural gas - the cleanest energy source - will be the first steam power plant in Serbia.

- Preparations are now being made for commissioning and Serbia will soon get a new power plant, which will enable the improvement of the electric power situation in the country and significantly improve the air quality in Pancevo - said Varnavski.

NIS General Director Kirili Tyurdenev advised that they are bringing modern technologies to Serbia which will contribute to the improvement of environmental protection and create new jobs for young professionals:

- Most importantly, the stable operation of the new gas power plant will additionally contribute to the security of electricity supply in Serbia.
