The Ministry of Environmental Protection has given approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment Study of the expansion of the open-pit mine Field G in the mining basin Kolubara in Lazarevac.

The open-pit mine Field G is located in the western part of the Kolubara coal basin and it started working after the exploitation at the Veliki Crljeni mine ended, as its replacement capacity.

As said in the Environmental Impact Assessment Study in March last year, the expansion of Field G is necessary due to the delays in the procurement of the equipment for the open-pit mine Radljevo.

In the expanded zone in the east and the southeast, according to estimates, around 6 million tons of coal can be excavated, and there is also the possibility of expansion toward the west, where an additional 1.7 million tons of coal could be excavated. With this production, the life cycle of the mine would be extended by around 1.5 years, until exploitation starts in Radljevo.

It was also pointed out at the time that the coal from Field G was of better quality and that it would be used for the needs of the TPP Nikola Tesla in Obrenovac.
