Today, in Belgrade, representatives of Serbia and the EU signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Raw Materials, Battery Production Supply Chains and Electric Vehicles.

The document was signed by the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, and the executive vice-president of the European Commission for the European Green Deal and the vice-president of the European Commission for interinstitutional relations, Maros Sefcovic, in the presence of the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and the chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz. The Summit on Critical Raw Materials was held beforehand.

Vucic: Guarantees from EU that the Jadar project will be carried out in line with the highest standards

The president stated today that, without the full protection of human lives and nature, there would be no mining of lithium in Western Serbia, in the Loznica area.

At the Summit on Critical Raw Materials in Belgrade, he said that he knew that there would be no wide public support in Serbia for the lithium mining project, supposed to be carried out by Rio Tinto, but that he had received guarantees from the EU that the Jadar project would be carried out in line with the highest standards.
