Djedovic Handanovic: Increase in electricity prices for households out of the question this year

The Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic stated that there will be no increase in the price of electricity for citizens of Serbia this year, even though the price of electricity on the stock exchanges in previous periods was "extremely high".

- Since the price of electricity on the stock market has been extremely high in recent months, and Serbia was also importing electricity, it was expected that it would spill over into the accounts of households, but there is no question of an increase in the price of electricity for citizens this year - said Djedovic in her interview for Politika newspaper.

When it comes to the economy, the minister added that the new methodology for calculating electricity and gas prices is expected to be in force before November 1, which, as she stated, will allow Elektroprivreda Srbije and Srbijagas to respond to price movements on the market in a milder and more flexible way. .

Djedovic Handanovic added that due to "unprecedentedly long heat waves" during the previous weeks in Serbia, there was also a record consumption of electricity, simultaneously with the overhaul of thermal, hydro and mining systems, and that "it is clear that part of the energy had to be provided through the market".

- But that electricity was not bought at crash prices, nor was it imported more than in December 2021. Quite the opposite, since overhaul activities were planned, import was also planned, and under the most favorable conditions - the minister claims.
