The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is considering approving a loan for Serbia in the amount of EUR 90 million for the financing of the construction of a large solar-thermal power plant in the territory of Novi Sad, learns Biznis.rs.

This is a project with an estimated value of EUR 104.7 million, which the EU should co-finance with a grant within the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF).

The construction and integration of the solar-thermal power plant in the central heating system is part of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) that the City Assembly of Novi Sad adopted at the session of June 28 this year, as well as the joint project with the EBRD called “Novi Sad – Green City Action Plan” (GCAP).

The funds from the EBRD loan should be used for the construction of a solar-thermal power plant with 38,600 square meters of collector fields, a seasonal heat storage facility, a heat pump and an e-boiler.

The EBRD will deliberate on whether to approve the EUR 90 million for the construction of the solar-thermal power plant in Novi Sad on December 4.
