The new bus station has opened in Belgrade, in Block 42 in New Belgrade, the former Flea Market location, and the first departures will be made on Sunday, September 29. The mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, said at the opening of the bus station that the investment was worth EUR 17 million.

He announced that the tender for the construction of the big station building would be opened and that the rail station building would be built simultaneously and added that the construction of both facilities should be completed by the end of 2027.

He added that he expected the old bus station to be closed several days later.

– We are developing that part of the city, the park and the garage, and we are connecting Karadjordjeva Street with Savska Street. We have agreed traffic solutions with the Belgrade Waterfront company, because we have to make the city more suitable for transit traffic – said Sapic.

According to him, the conditions for the closing of the Old Sava Bridge have now met, and the new one, called the Serbian Bridge, will be completed by 2027.

When asked why there was a rush to move the bus station, given that the station building had not been completed, the mayor said that the old station was not suitable and added that the moving was also necessary because of the beginning of the construction of a new bridge in place of the Old Sava Bridge, as well as a tunnel in its extension, “and the least because of the Belgrade Waterfront.”

Sapic also emphasized that the City of Belgrade had completed its part of the financing of the new bus station when it had provided the land for it.

He also explained that BAS had been obliged to build the station, but that the works had stopped due to the problems at that company, as they had had no money to continue the realization, which had been solved two years before by the Government of Serbia providing a loan to BAS to be able to complete the station, that is, to meet its obligation under the contract.

– The total investment is around EUR 17 million – he said and added that the station building was financed by the Government of Serbia.

Sapic emphasized that, in addition to the Lisbon bus station, the new station in Belgrade, by its characteristics, capacities and the manner in which it will function, would be one of the most modern ones in Europe.

He explained that by moving BAS to New Belgrade, the routes of certain suburban transport lines had been reorganized and announced that all the details would be made available to the citizens in the media.

The mayor of Belgrade expects the big bus stop Jug, near Autokomanda, for which the project is prepared, to be completed in a few months.

Sapic also said that, during the autumn, he expected for the contractor to be found for Patrijarha Pavla Blvd, after the complaint procedure regarding the published tender was finished.

– The works on the boulevard, if they begin at the end of autumn, should be completed by the end of next year – he said and added that a part of Zivojina Misica Blvd. would be expanded to four lanes, Teodora Drajzera Street to three, and added that there were also intensive works on the beginning of the construction of the tunnel beneath Senjak.

The director general of BAS, Boban Kovacevic, said that the new bus station can be reached by public transport from Jurija Gagarina Street to the provisional parking lot for arrival platforms and that the entrance to the departure platforms was from Marka Hristica Street.

Tickets will be available not only at the counters, but also at ticket machines distributed across the station building and the platforms – he said.

He added that tickets would also be available online at www.bas.rs.

– The station has tactile paths, panels for people with impaired vision, which is a step forward compared to the old location – said Kovacevic.

Until the completion of the works on the station building, the passengers will use the temporary facility with the basic features – an annex of 1,200 square meters which is equipped for smooth operations.

The new bus station can be reached by the tram lines 7, 9, 11 and 13, which pass right by it, and the bus lines 85, 89, 94, 95, 600, E6, as well as the bus lines 60, 60L, 67, 93 and EKO1.

As announced earlier, during the works started in 2017, in Block 42, a station area with 65 platforms was built – 12 arrival platforms and 53 departure platforms and a parking lot with 186 spaces, 89 of which are meant for arriving passengers, whereas 97 spaces are meant for departing passengers.

Eight departure platforms are reserved for suburban traffic, 22 for intercity traffic, 14 for international traffic and nine for non-line/tourist traffic.

A taxi station with 25 spaces and “a provisional parking lot for buses” with 80 spaces have been built.

The station building will feature a ticket sales counter, a place where the passengers will be able to buy refreshments or something to eat, and there will also be outlets for rent.

The citizens will have at their disposal an ATM, an exchange office, a post office, a kiosk and an outdoor clinic, and the station building will be covered with a free Wi-Fi system.
