Belgrade's "Prokop" touched by the Sun – "Serbian Railways" signed contract with Hungarian investor on continuation of construction of that railway station and business-commercial space worth 200m EUR
The representatives of "Serbian Railways" and Hungarian company "Trigranit development corporation" signed the general contract, on June 13, 2006, on construction of new railway station "Beograd Centar" in Prokop, which concerns construction of 138,000 square meters of business-commercial space worth 200m EUR.
On that occasion, the general manager of the Hungarian company, Tod Cowan, stated that "Trigranit" had obliged to finish the construction of the railway station within next 2 years and to build another 128,000 square meters of business-commercial space for rental, which would be settled above the station, and another 10,000 square meters inside the station.
(From the meeting at which the contract was signed)
Projected value of that investment is between 150 and 200m EUR. The final contract for construction of "Prokop" should be signed prior to September 2006, which would be followed by the commencement of the construction.
Cowan added that Serbian workers and companies would be included in the realization of that business, whereas the main contractor would be selected on the tender.
The general manager of "Serbian Railways", Milanko Šarančić, said that the contract with "Trigranit" represented only the first phase of the project for construction of the nww and relocation of the old main railway station from the Belgrade downtown.
In the second phase of that project, the space within "Prokop" complex will be organized and another 170,000 square meters of business-apartment space built, the value of which exceeds 1 billion USD. In the third and the final phase (after relocation of the old railway station from the Sava amphitheater), about 80 ha of the most exclusive land in the very center of Belgrade will be freed and organized and, at the same time, relocation of the transportation of dangerous matters from the city center will be enabled.
