Transportation port in Šabac waits for investor who will invest about 8m EUR in it
Town Hall of Šabac has adopted the Statute of the newly formed Public Company "Luka i transport", which operated as a free zone until recently.
According to the words of Miloš Milošević, the Mayor of Šabac, this is the best way to protect the interests of the Municipality of Šabac and to avoid negative experiences of those free zones and ports that were privatized and are now out of business. Special emphasis is put on the future international port that will operate within free zone Šabac, which got the best recommendations from the Ministry of Capital Investments.
The aquatoria was prepared back in 1993 and it enables access to the ships and barges with draft of up to four meters. However, the complete organization of the international port requires about 8m EUR and the good sign is that potential investors already showed up.
- We should rely on the positive European experiences. I would like to mention the port of Vienna as an example where the city is the owner of the land and infrastructure and, thanks to that, it collects significant incomes. It should be pointed out that the transportation by water is seven times cheaper than the road transportation and it is estimated that the economy of Šabac and the economies of the neighboring municipalities could transport about 1m tons of goods by using this type of transportation - says Nikola Bjelan, the manager of free zone and the members of the expert group for this project.
The Šabac free zone has more than 20,000 square meters of indoor storage space at its disposal, as well as about 40 ha of land with real chance for broadening on about 100 ha.
