Zrenjanin wants to terminate agreement on water factory construction - Germany's WTE claims all obligations are fulfilled
At an extraordinary session of the Zrenjanin City Assembly on Friday (18 March 2014), the aldermen gave the green light to the public utility company Vodovod i Kanalizacija to terminate an agreement signed with Germany's WTE (Wasseretechnik) on the construction of a water treatment plant.
This decision was made at the proposal of the City Council.
Goran Tajdic, the director of Vodovod i Kanalizacija, told the press after the City Assembly session that the reasons for terminating that agreement were the application of drinking water quality standards, given that domestic regulations in that field were different from those in Europe, and the allotment of state guarantees for that investment.
At the same time, WTE announced Friday that it had fulfilled all obligations from the agreement, so in case of its termination, Zrenjanin would have to pay damages measured in millions of euros.
