Building in the air - Architectural solution selected for Science Promotion Center in Belgrade
Austrian architect Wolfgang Tschapeller is the winner of the International competition for architectural solution for the building of the Science Promotion Center in New Belgrade's Block 39.
A total of 232 designs from all around the world were submitted for the first international architectural competition for a preliminary design in Serbia in nearly 30 years.
The second prize is won by Sou Fujimoto Architects (Tokyo, Japan), while the third is ARCVS architectural bureau from Serbia.
Members of the jury were four international experts: Roberto Simon (Brazil), Dorte Mandrup (Denmark), Gunter Katherl (Austria) and Ourania Kloutsinioti (Greece), as well as Serbian Minister of Science and Technology Development Bozidar Djelic and city architect Dejan Vasovic. The jury was chaired by Director of the Association of Serbian Architects Jovan Mitrovic.
The Science Promotion Center is part of the program of investments in the science infrastructure that is financed from the funds of the European Investment Bank. The project is worth about 20 million euros, while the completion of construction of the Center is expected in 2012.
