Institute for Peace Through Tourism to Build Peace Parks in Most Important Tourist Destinations of Serbia

The main projects of the Institute for Peace Through Tourism (IMIT) will be to found Peace Parks in the most important tourist destinations of Serbia and promote the importance of achieving peace through tourism among the students for whom contests will be organized, where they will be asked to write papers on this topic, stated the founder and president of IMIT, Jovan Popesku.

At the presentation of this institute, founded in April, which is also part of the International Institute for Peace Through Tourism, he pointed out that the word “peace” in the name of the institute did not only pertain to the absence of war, but also internal peace, being at peace with our environment, the nature, past and future generations and with the creator himself.

The development of tourism, as said, should create the foundations for a more peaceful and sustainable world.

The secretary-general of the institute, Danijel Pavlovic, pointed out that IMIT was founded at a special time, full of the defeatist attitude about tourism being ruined.

He emphasized that it was important to start thinking more widely about tourism, not only seeing it as a matter of development and economy, because its contributions reach beyond that.

– Tourism is not its own purpose, but should benefit the community – Pavlovic emphasized.
