The energy security of Europe is still very dependent on gas – whether directly for heating, whether for the operations of gas centrals which cover at least a fifth of the consumption of electrical energy. Although European storage sites are full, analysts warn – the consumption of gas is growing, the prices are growing again as well, and due to a colder winter, the stock could be depleted quickly.

The director of Srbijagas, Dusan Bajatovic, said that the consumption of gas had grown in the industry, whereas in Europe, the price of gas had grown 16%. He noted that, by the end of the first quarter of 2025, the price would be USD 450 for 1,000 cubic meters of gas.

– Without Russian gas, there is no solving that equation. Europe is energy-poor. If the winter is cold, there will not be enough gas for Europe – noted Bajatovic.

He says that he is worried, because Japan and Asia have no limitations for American gas. He is noticing that certain countries in Europe are returning to coal. When it comes to the situation regarding gas in Serbia, he assures that it is stable.

– Serbia will be stable in terms of prices. We now have 13 million cubic meters of gas a day. When it comes to the quantities, there are no problems either. We will have sufficient quantities of gas. We also have the most favorable price in Europe – claims Bajatovic.

He points out that the price of gas for households will not change and that the corporate sector will also be “within the price corridor.”

Talking about the expansion of the Banatski Dvor gas storage site, Bajatovic says that there will be four new compressors, 12 new boreholes and a new production line.

– If we do everything, Banatski Dvor will also have a larger capacity. We are working toward storing a billion and a half cubic meters of gas in three years – says Bajatovic.
